Production used metal ring, laser cut to read "United Federation of Planets 2258" with the Starfleet star logo in the center. Featured in the film, the ring was used by "Thomas Harewood" (Noel Clarke) during a pivotal scene where, indebted to Benedict Cumberbatch's "Khan" for saving his daughter's life, he dropped the ring into a glass of water, causing an explosion that destroyed the Kelvin Memorial Archive.
