Original concept sketch by Tim and Greg Hildebrandt accomplished in graphite pencil on 15.75 x 21.5 in. vellum (visible through 20.25 x 26.25 in. mat and frame). The legendary Hildebrandt Brothers, artists and illustrators, created this concept sketch for The Sword of Shannara, a 1977 epic fantasy novel by the American writer Terry Brooks. The novel has been compared in theme and style to J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. The legacy of the award-winning Brothers Hildebrandt was influenced by the style of Disney feature animated films like Snow White, Pinocchio and Fantasia. Other influences were comic and science fiction art and the work of painters Norman Rockwell and Maxfield Parrish. The brothers are celebrated for their internationally admired illustration art on Lord of the Rings calendars as well as iconic movie posters and promotional design for blockbuster movies like Star Wars.
